If anyone can identify what this once was please enlighten us. To give you a sense of scale, the head was the size of an apple.

Yes, it was an odd find exactly because things like this would usually get eaten and the remains scattered. We need Sherlock Holmes for this one...

From the look of the claws, and the size you say the skull is, I would say this was a Raccoon. Just a guess though, since I don't think Gremlins and Goblins are indigenous to Canada.
